education and drills to meet all patient safety, disaster preparedness/response and
community/multi-agency drills required under CMS regulations, and the NIMS Implementation
Facility Plan. Our program provides client Fire Depts., Police Depts., Airports, Military,
Universities, Businesses, Hospitals and Healthcare facilities with comprehensive disaster
planning, preparation and response training, significant patient safety improvement through
the use of simulation based training and demonstratable cost savings compared to our
competitors.

WORKSHOPS:-Each of our Workshops are 4 to 8 hours in length -Including
an actual disaster exercise at the end of most or our courses that your
training can be applied to.

MOULAGE CLASSES: ($250.00 per student(minimum 10 students per
class)
In this class you will learn the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, HOW and WHY
of Moulage.  What exactly is Moulage?  Why do we need to use Moulage?   
When is Moulage used?  Where would you use your Moulage Skills once
learned?  How do I do Moulage?  You will learn how to make all kinds of Injury
Simulations with this class.  You will receive an illustrated instruction Manual,
a small Moulage kit and certificate of completion with this class.

MAN MADE, TECHNOLOGICAL, AND NATURAL DISASTERS:
The threat of major disaster is more evident than ever. You don't want to end
up a victim, do you?  You want to be a part of the solution! Are you a leader?  
Do you have confidence in yourself and others to react responsibly to put out
fires, tend to the wounded, properly evacuate and basically have CONTROL
of the situation? Our instructor will give you the most detailed information
around. Then he will make you think twice as he creates an actual disaster
scenario in one of your rooms or outside of the class, and shows you the do's
and don'ts of disaster survival, leadership and team work.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS:(for both Businesses and Individuals):
We will cover such subjects as - Recent Disasters and Emergencies,
Disasters and Disaster workers, Home and Workplace preparedness, What is
a Disaster?; Laws Protecting Disaster Workers and Volunteers, Disruption of
the Infrastructure, Structural and Non-Structural Hazards, Water, Sanitation,
and Food Issues; How to Prepare Your Home, Auto, and Workplace.

CPR/FIRST AID:
We will have a Career Firefighter/Paramedic teaching this class who will teach
the NEW protocols for CPR.  You will also learn basic first aid and the
START.(Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment): method to triage multiple
injuries.  
This is important in both your household and in the public.
**SPECIAL
REQUEST CLASS: MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 40 STUDENTS PER
CLASS TO HOLD THIS CLASS.

FIRE SUPPRESSION AND HAZARDOUS MATERIALS:
This is a very detailed and comprehensive lesson in the use of a fire
extinguisher and fire hose. The right way to gain entrance; How to protect you
and your BUDDIE; What does "SIZE UP" really mean?  You will also learn
about Fire Chemistry, Hazardous Materials, Reducing Fire Hazards in the
home and workplace and Fire Suppression Safety.  Basically this is a mini
Fire Ops. 101 class.  This class will be taught by a CERTIFIED Hazmat
Instructor/Firefighter.

PIO, SECURITY, AND LOGISTICS:
Would you know how to handle the scene until Emergency Personnel arrive?  
Would you be able to take charge of the scene and document happenings so
that when Emergency Personnel arrive that they can be told quickly and
accurately what has been done to account for property and lives?
This class is for you Team Leaders or those who would be "in charge" of
the scene until Emergency Personnel arrives.  In this class you will learn
about the ICS Command System as required by FEMA, Security decision
making, documentation of services and events and given forms to make
copies of and use for documentation purposes.  You will see quickly how
communication and documentation of the specifics of an event are
paramount to successfully making sure that all efforts are made to save
people and make sure that all lives and properties are accounted for.  This
class is NOT for beginners, but the more experienced First Responder or as
a refresher course for the First Responder.

DISASTER MEDICAL OPERATIONS I & II:
A major disaster will overwhelm all medical personnel and hospitals within
minutes. You may be on your own for days if not weeks.  It will be left up to
you to attend to yourself and others around you. You will be taught the
S.T.A.R.T. System used by Military, Firefighters and Paramedics and other
First Responders. the S.T.A.R.T. (Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment.)
system.  You will be taught How to check for breathing, open and create an
airway when necessary, control bleeding, treat for shock and mass casualty  
management. What to do with the victim after they have been evacuated,
what is a head-to-toe evaluation and how to handle the various needs of the
injured.  You will be taught how to set up a treatment area, and how to
conduct head-to-toe assessments and much, much more
.  

LIGHT SEARCH AND RESCUE:
If a major disaster has just occurred,  What will you do after you see that you
are okay? How many are trapped and where? What is the first course of
action? Where can you get help? How can you be most effective to help save
lives and help the injured? What do those big X's and dates mean on doors
of houses after an incident?  You will learn damage assessment; the
significance of time of day, day of week, and weather condition and how they
play significant roles. Evacuation, lifting techniques, methods of
transportation of victims, staying focused, team work, and how to focus on the
side of safety at all times. In this class, you will actually practice conducting a
Search and Rescue Operation during a small exercise at the end of the class.

DISASTER PSYCHOLOGY:
Prepares you for the emotional environment you will be confronted with. We
will be stressing the need for team work (you & your BUDDY), organization
(how to create a management team at work or in your neighborhood) and
logistical planning (how to set up an Incident Command System). We will also
be showing you how to help children and adults cope with a disaster, how to
reorganize and treat signs of trauma.



Burke's Disaster Preparedness Services also offers a specifically
tailored "Disaster Exercise Design Course", custom designed to fit
the needs of your business.  This course is taught by: Lisa Burke,
Disaster Preparation Specialist along with Professional Firefighters
and Paramedics.  Some of what we can offer in our tailored Courses

PLANNING THE DRILL: Writing the plan out, conducting a task & resource
analysis.

DESIGNING THE PERFECT SIMULATION TO FIT YOUR NEEDS:  
Establishing your objectives, Narritive, Developing the scenario, Major
sequence of events, Detailed sequence of events, Expected actions,
Message development, Sensory messages.

EXERCISE LOGISTICS PLANNING:  Transportation, Communications,
Media, Budget, Administration, Food & Refreshments, Sanitary Facilities,
Contact log, Evaluation, Critique.  

SITE READINESS PLANNING: We will discuss the site, it's Physical facilities,
Props and Victims, Position of Forces/Staff/Observers/Press, Simulation
movement and Selection of Props.

VICTIM PREPARATION: Victim planning & sources, Agreement to participate,
Hold Harmless agreements, Victim Registration, Preparation, Moulage, Victim
Cards.

EVALUATION & FOLLOW-UP: We will discuss Evaluation, Critique and the
Follow-up process, What will be evaluated?, Conducting the Critique,
Evaluation Reports, Follow-up action.

Burke's Disaster Preparedness Services will provide a Certificate of
Completion  for each
class upon Request. CPR/FA CERTIFICATION CARDS are good for 2
years and will be provided to all who take this class.  We also offer
CPR/FA RE-certifications.  These classes are taught by a Professional
Firefighter/Paramedic with more than 25 years on the job.
